This design is in honor of the Hawaiian language. For those that may not already know, the Hawaiian language was banned in 1896 and was barely spoken for many generations. Gratefully, there have been lots of people over the years with the passion and drive to revitalize this beautiful language. Today, 'Ōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian) is an official language of the Hawaiian Islands, together with English. The hakalama is a chant developed by a kumu (teacher) to teach children the Hawaiian language
